The Harpur Baronets (1626)
The Baronetcy of Harpur of Calke Abbey was created in the Baronetage of England on 8th September 1626 for Henry Harpur of Calke Abbey, Derbyshire. He was a grandson of Richard Harpur, Justice of the Common Pleas, of Swarkestone Hall. (Richard Harpur died in 1573.)
The 4th Baronet married Catherine Crewe, daughter of Thomas, 2nd Lord Crewe and in
1808 the 7th Baronet changed his name to Harpur Crewe in commemoration of his ancestry.
The name was later changed again to Harpur-
The Baronetcy was extinct on the death of the 10th Baronet in 1924. The Derbyshire
estate passed down on the female line and in 1949 was inherited by Charles Jenny.
